The U.S. State Department on June 22 designated four additional Chinese state-run media outlets as foreign missions, a move that would identify them as propaganda organs of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The designation, which raises restrictions on the outlets’ U.S. operations, applies to: China Central Television, China’s state broadcaster; China News Service, one of the regime’s largest news outlets, which is run by the CCP’s United Front Work Department; the People’s Daily, the official mouthpiece of the CCP; and the Global Times, an affiliate of People’s Daily.
