Hong Kong Swimmer Wins 100m and 200m Freestyle Finals in the San Antonio Pool Event

Four members representing the Hong Kong swimming team competed in the 2024 TYR Pro Swim Series in San Antonio, Texas, from April 10 to April 13. Among them, Siobhan Haughey won the gold medal in the women’s 100-meter freestyle final, beating host swimmer Kate Douglass by a mere 0.24 seconds. Later, Haughey posted a double by winning the 200-meter freestyle final, beating Katie Ledecky of the U.S. by 0.45 seconds.

Haughey, Camille Cheng Mei, Adam John Chillingworth, and Ian Ho Yentou represent the Hong Kong swimming team to compete in the series. Among them, Haughey and Cheng took part in the women’s 100m freestyle event. Cheng clocked 57.66 seconds in the preliminary round and ranked 69th, while Haughey advanced to the finals after ranking top with 53.67 seconds. The latter she followed up with another achievement of 52.74 seconds in the final on Thursday night, beating American swimmer Kate Douglass by 0.24 seconds to take gold.

Both Haughey and Cheng took part in the women’s 200-meter freestyle event, with Haughey winning the event in 1 minute 54.52 seconds. Moreover, Haughey and Ho will also take part in the women’s, and men’s, 100-meter butterfly events, respectively. Chillingworth, another member of the Hong Kong team, was originally scheduled to start in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke event but did not compete in the end.
