China Seeks to Double Nuclear Arsenal Size in Next Decade: Pentagon Report

China’s military has surpassed the United States in shipbuilding, air defense, and ground-based missile development, according to a Pentagon report, as the regime in Beijing strives toward its goal of becoming the world’s dominant superpower by the year 2049.

This year’s annual China Military Power report (pdf) indicates that in 2019, the Chinese military continued to modernize and restructure–although it notes that the force still has “major gaps and shortcomings.”
