Shootings in Chicago least two people were killed and eight were wounded as of Sunday morning, continuing a weekend trend of violence. Another person was killed in a crash on Saturday night as a shooting suspect was fleeing police.

During the long Fourth of July weekend a week ago, 12 people were shot and killed, while dozens were injured in separate incidents across the city.

DNAInfo reported Sunday that two men were killed in separate shootings on Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Fernando Sanchez, 25, was shot while standing on the sidewalk near his Humboldt Park home when gunfire erupted, police told the website.

In the other fatal shooting, Jeremy Morris, 25, was killed while he was sitting in his car in the South Paxton Avenue in South Shore, officials said.

The Chicago Tribune reported that a shooter killed a woman on Saturday night as he was fleeing police. The assailant’s car crashed into two vehicles on the West Side.

This weekend, on Saturday evening and early Sunday morning, at least eight people were shot, including a 72-year-old woman who was sitting on her stoop in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, reported the Tribune. The paper said most of the shootings overnight were on the South and West side.

Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada told NBC Chicago that the 72-year-old woman was shot in the arm and is now in stable condition.

A 17-year-old boy was also shot at around 5:35 a.m. on the South Side. He was shot in his right arm after someone walked up to him and opened fire, police said.

Two other teens were shot on Saturday night in Englewood, a 38-year-old man was shot on the West Side, a 60-year-old woman was shot in the chin on the South Side, and a 19-year-old woman was shot at 3 a.m. A 33-year-old man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side; he was hospitalized and his condition stabilized.
