Around 30 Chicago Police Department horses were let loose from their stables after vandals broke in Sunday, police said.

The vandals also injured two of the horses with a fire extinguisher; one was sprayed in the eyes, the other struck on the back of its right leg, reported the Chicago Tribune. Both horses were reportedly doing fine despite the spook.

“The incident has upset a lot of people here,” Lt. Paul Bauer, who heads the department’s patrol unit, told the newspaper. “The horses were very agitated and fearful. You can imagine the trauma they endured.”

Bauer said that the vandals were not aiming to steal anything, but “rather, they entered this to maliciously harm our horses—for what reason, I don’t know,” he told CBS News.

Officers searched the area and found that a window had been broken to get inside the facility; no arrests have been made.
