A 19-year-old pregnant woman was killed in Chicago over the weekend, but her baby survived.

Parasha Beard, along with a man, was shot while she was sitting in a parked car. Another vehicle drove up alongside the vehicle and a suspect with dreadlocks opened fire on them, striking them both.

Beard, who was slated to give birth in December, was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where her baby was delivered prematurely and taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, family members told CBS Chicago. Bear was later pronounced dead, police said.

The 26-year-old man in the car was hit in the chest and neck, and he was described as being in critical condition.

Her family told Fox32 that they’re seeking justice, and they’re calling for the public’s help in identifying her killer.

“The only thing I’m asking for is just justice and peace right now. That’s all I want,” Crystal Jones, Parasha’s mother, told the station. They confirmed the child was saved and that they had named her “Miracle.”

“Miracle, she’s a miracle baby, she’s doing good, she’s breathing on her own,” Sylvia Jones-King, Parasha’s grandmother, told the station.

“At this moment right now we are working, expeditiously around the clock to find out, our organization is on the streets so we deal with a lot of people that are out here, that have the knowabouts and whereabout of what’s going on and this is now over, we are going to come to justice on this,” Pete Keller, a friend of the family, told Fox32.

The man who was shot is a known gang member, but it’s unclear if he was the target, police said according to WGN-TV.

No arrests have been made so far and detectives are reviewing surveillance footage.
