SAUGERTIES, N.Y.—Actor Chevy Chase has returned to his old upstate New York stomping grounds to help some friends raise funds to restore a local landmark.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports (http://bit.ly/14sw1Bx) that Chase and his wife, Jayni, attended a fundraiser Sunday on the grounds of Opus 40, a sculpture park located in a former quarry in Saugerties (SAW'-ger-teez), 40 miles south of Albany.

Chase spent summers in nearby Woodstock while growing up. His pals during that time were brothers Tad and Jonathan Richards, the stepsons of artist Harvey Fite, the sculptor who spent nearly four decades creating Opus 40.

Parts of the park sustained damage from Hurricane Irene.

Supporters have already raised $10,000 for some repairs and hope to raise another $50,000.
