Chelsea Handler is slated to be the next host of the MTV Video Music Awards, according to an official announcement by the television station on Thursday.

The comedian will get her chance to make sassy and sardonic remarks in front of an audience of millions, in the show which will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sept. 12.

“I’m pretty excited, because it’s such a big hip-hop and rap year, and I just love having those guys on my show, and they have the best senses of humor anyway,” she said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.

The last female comedian to host the awards show was Rosanne Barr 16 years ago.

“I want to go and film some ridiculous stuff and see if we can do something with Kanye, because I always talk about Kanye, so he seems like he'd be in on the fun,” Handler said, in reference to West’s widely-mimicked gaffe towards singer Taylor Swift at the awards show last year.

“We just had our first couple of meetings the last couple of weeks, and then we‘ll figure out a plan. I’ll be myself—that I can promise.”

The 35-year-old Handler hosts her own late-night show on E! called “Chelsea Lately,” which depicts her exploits.

She also is the author of bestselling books Are You There Vodka? It’s Me Chelsea and Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.
