Chad Ochocinco, the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver, will be Chad Johnson again.
Number 85 announced on Wednesday that he is changing back to the name he was born with, ESPN and other media report.
“I don’t have a choice right now,” he told the sports news agency. “I have done enough with the Ocho thing, and it’s been fun.”
Ochocinco changed his name in 2008 to reflect his jersey number.
He didn’t give a date when the name-change will go into effect.
As for his future with the Bengals, he told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he is going to play for Cincinnati next year.
“I’m wearing stripes next year,” Ochocinco said, according to the newspaper. “I’m excited to come back and I’m ready to go.”
During the 2010 season, the 33-year-old receiver caught 54 passes for 628 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games.
