CEO: ‘I was entranced the whole time’ by Shen Yun

WASHINGTON–Web hosting company founder and CEO Dan Morris found a lot to love about Shen Yun Performing Arts, after attending the Friday performance at the Kennedy Center Opera House.

“I was entranced the whole time,” he said. “Very elegant dancers—so much beauty. It was quite wonderful.”

Mr. Morris is the creator of SunSaturn.com, which began as a software development company and evolved into a web hosting firm. He also has a long history of running back end systems of fortune 500 companies and is active in the local community teaching the next generation of web designers and programmers at the university level.

He said Shen Yun’s collection of story-based dance dramas were highly engaging.

“I thought it was genuine, articulate, very well put together; I quite enjoyed it,” he said.

New York-based Shen Yun is a world-renowned classical Chinese dance and music company. Formed in 2006 by overseas Chinese artists, the company aims to revive 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture.

“We are artists from around the world united by a shared mission. We came together in New York and set out to revive a lost heritage. Our greatest joy comes from sharing this passion with the world,” states Shen Yun’s website.

According to the website, China’s divinely-inspired traditional culture has been lost during violent campaigns such as the Cultural Revolution, waged by the Chinese communist regime.

“The message of the show I believe had a lot to do with Chinese culture and what they believe, going back into the day and really trying to relive an old tradition and customs that they were used to.”” said Mr. Morris.

Aside from story-based classical Chinese dance and ethnic and folk dance, Shen Yun also features vocal performances, a philharmonic orchestra combined with traditional Chinese instruments, and digitally animated backdrops.

Mr. Morris said the performance was outstanding and highly recommended it to anyone.

“For the price it was, all the value is there,” he said. “The amount of choreography that went into it, the singers that are on stage singing, the sopranos, the pianist, the orchestra in front—the value was incredible.”

He said he was grateful that Shen Yun could come to Washington and it made a very enjoyable evening.

“It’s been wonderful,” he said. “I would say you have to go see it.”
