PRAGUE–While relentless rain and severe floods distress the Czech population, some are not much concerned and even welcome the water near their homes.
A YouTube user who goes by the name Radek Novak uploaded a video Sunday showing a girl in a wetsuit water boarding across the flooded roads. The filmmakers say they wanted “to make locals smile” in spite of the current difficulties.
Some netizens criticized the video, however, as showing disrespect in the face of culminating disaster. So far five people have died in the Czech Republic due to the floods, and thousands have been evacuated.
The government declared the state of emergency in all counties but one in Bohemia. Rising water has hit the capital, Prague. Fortunately, the rain has stopped and the water should recede.
Massive floods also hit other countries in Central Europe, including Germany, Austria, Poland, and Hungary.
