HONG KONG—Craigengower Cricket Club (CCC) pulled level on points with defending champion Kowloon Bowling Green Club (KBGC) at the top of the Division 1 table after a 6-2 victory at home against the newly-promoted Island Lawn Bowls Club (ILBC) last Saturday, September 5.

Before the weekend KBGC was leading CCC by two points, after two consecutive 8-0 victories. They could not maintain their momentum against another promoted team Filipino Club at home on Saturday and had to settle for a 4-4 draw.

CCC, who vowed to capture their first topflight title in 20 years, was engaged in a tight match against lowly ILBC. While two of the rinks skipped by top youth bowler Lee Ka Ho and China international Jacky Wong tied with their opponents, the rink skipped by Kevin Fung won by a margin of 20:14 to keep six points at the club.

2012 and 2013 champions, Kowloon Cricket Club quietly moved up to third place after defeating Hong Kong Football Club at home. They are now six points behind the joint leaders and maintain the hope of winning their third title in four years.

At the other end of the table, it looks like doom for bottom team Taipo Lawn Bowls Club as they suffered their fifth 8-0 lost in the season, this time at the hand of the Police. They are now 17 points less than KBGC-B, the team they will play this weekend and currently lie eighth.

Women’s
In the women’s section, Hong Kong Football Club A team maintained their lead of eight points after dispatching bottom club United Services Recreation Club 6-2 at home over the weekend. While HKFC is well on course for their ninth successive title, USRC was pushed further towards relegation as they are now 14 points away from safety.

Shatin Sports Association defeated second-placed Kowloon Bowling Green Club 6-2 at home to take over the second position.

In the relegation dogfight, second-from-bottom Craigengower Cricket Club gained a vital victory against third-from-bottom Kowloon Cricket Club and cut the gap to four points.

This weekend will be crucial to KCC as they will play against Indian Recreation Club, the team just in front of them. CCC will play leader HKFC at home. 269LBTables.combined
