Philadelphia-based Comcast Corp., the nation’s largest cable provider, has signed a 10-year agreement with media company CBS Corp. to carry the network’s television programs, the company announced on Monday. The deal includes so-called retransmission fees for CBS, the first major agreement of its kind in the industry.
“In this time of rapidly changing technology and viewership interest, we were able to structure a deal that gives customers the content they want without any threat of disrupting their service,” said Brian Roberts, Comcast’s chairman, in a statement. The agreement also includes distribution of movie channel Showtime Networks, the new Smithsonian Channel, and CBS College Sports.
