Catholic Church Destroyed by Force in Xian City, 16 Nuns Wounded

China Aid learned that on November 22, a Catholic church was bulldozed in Xi'an city, Shanxi Province. Sixteen nuns were wounded and hospitalized.

According to reliable sources, at 6pm on November 22, approximately 30 uniformed young men rushed into the church with wooden sticks in their hands. At 8pm, a bulldozer started tearing down the Catholic church. After some government officials from the Religious Affairs Bureau came to the site, the destruction was halted for the day.

Then on the evening of November 23, the destruction resumed. Forty uniformed young men armed with sticks started beating the nuns who were defending the church building. Sixteen nuns suffered eye injuries and/or broken legs. Some are still hospitalized.

Sister Dong Jianian, 41, still hospitalized at Red Cross Hospital of Shanxi province; Sister Cheng Jing, 34, still hospitalized at People¡¯s Hospital of Shanxi province; Sister Yue Xiuying, 31, still hospitalized at People¡¯s Hospital of Shanxi province; Sister Jin Hongfang, 34, still hospitalized at People¡¯s Hospital of Shanxi province; Sister Zhang Xueling, 45; Sister Ren Aiying, 45; Sister He Jingru, 38; Sister Fan Xiujuan, 32; Sister Jia Shuiyang, 50; Sister Li Zhuanxia, 33; Sister Li Min, 31; Sister Li Zhenzhu, 45; Sister Li Jiaoye, 32; Sister Wang Zhenai, 42; Sister Yang Cenghui, 50; Sister Zhao Shengyan, 40.
