“Carlos Danger” may have been the name used by Anthony Weiner, a New York City mayoral candidate and former Congressman, in lurid sex chats, according to an unverified report this week. Weiner has responded to the allegations on Tuesday.

A gossip site called “The Dirty” posted images of conversations that Weiner allegedly had with a 22-year-old woman, according to Business Insider.

BuzzFeed’s Ben Smith posted the chat images on Tuesday, drawing massive attention on Twitter. The term “Carlos Danger” trended on the social media site.

UPDATE: Weiner’s team responded to the allegations against him on Tuesday afternoon. “While some things that have been posted today are true and some are not, there is no question that what I did was wrong.”

But, he stressed, that “this behavior is behind me.”

“I want to again say that I am very sorry to anyone who was on the receiving end of these messages and the disruption that this has caused,” he said.

Weiner also said: “I said that other texts and photos were likely to come out, and today they have.”

The 22-year-old woman, whose name was not revealed, told the “Dirty” that her relationship with Weiner lasted for around six months. He promised her a job at Politico and said he could get her a condo in Chicago.

“Can you hard delete all our chats here,” said the person identified as Weiner in one of the chats. He added in another: “I’m deeply flawed.”

It is unclear when Weiner was involved in the alleged relationship with the woman but Nik Ritchie, who edits the site, wrote that the woman “was lured by Anthony Weiner post scandal via Facebook.”

“The Dirty” claims the chats are “solid.”

“They had a relationship for 6 months and she believed they were in love ... The relationship consisted of Anthony Weiner and Anonymous sending” images to one another, Ritchie wrote.

“Even post scandal, I thought he was misunderstood,” the woman was quoted as sayings. “Until I got to know him. I thought I loved him. Pretty pathetic.”

Since Weiner has not commented on the chats, it is unclear if the “Carlos Danger” chats are authentic.

Weiner quit his job as a U.S. congressman in 2011 after he admitted to sending sexually explicit images of himself to women online.

The allegation could severely test voters’ willingness to forgive Weiner, who has said he spent the two years since the scandal trying to make things right with his wife and earn redemption.

Weiner, who resigned his House seat in June 2011 after acknowledging having sexual conversations with at least a half-dozen women, has been near the top of most mayoral polls since his late entry into the race this spring.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
