Caraway, Arkansas: Possible Tornado Does Substantial Damage; Power Out

October 31, 2013 Updated: July 18, 2015

In Caraway in Arkansas, what is being described as a tornado–or something really close to one–did substantial damage to the town. Power lines, trees, and some buildings are damaged.

Power is still out for about 535 households on Friday morning; 20 power poles are broken, and a “significant amount of wire” is down, according to Entergy Arkansas. The company doesn’t yet know how long it will take to restore power.

The curfew is still in place until power is restored.

Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd told KAIT-TV that everyone is accounted for, and that four people suffered minor injuries.

Over a dozen buildings were damaged by the storm, including at least one home, the community center, and a gas station.

Emily Evans, a reporter out of Jonesboro who is on the scene, said that there’s “lots of damage.”

“Scary stuff out here,” she added.

A command post has been set up at the city hall, and so far no one has been found injured. 5 missing trick-or-treaters have been found safe.

Officials with the National Weather Service and Craighead County are on the scene helping assess the damage.
