Campbell Hoyt, a young One Direction fan who was visited by star Harry Styles about a month ago, apparently died.

The term #RIPCambellHoyt trended on Twitter and was the top worldwide one on Friday.

The Alternative Press reported that the girl died on Thursday night.

A popular Twitter account dedicated to One Direction wrote: “Cambell passed away. Harry visited her personally and she met the rest of the boys at MetLife. #RIPCampbellHoyt.”

Her mother told the Alternative Press a month ago that Hoyt, who suffers from brain and spine cancer, got a visit from Styles.

“He was emphatic that he did not do this for publicity. He truly just wanted to meet Cam. I would not want anyone to get the wrong idea,” her mother said.

Styles also wrote at the time: “Campbell Hoyt, I am thinking of you and sending you all the love in the world. That’s a lot of love.”

Before Styles visited, she said, “We’ve tried every way we have had available to us. Time is short,” she added. “If you know anyone who can help…”

She added: “We’re just are looking for a personalised video message to Cam from the boys. We’ve given up on a meet and greet.

“But to hear Harry and Niall and Louis and Zayn and Liam say, ‘Hello Campbell. We hear you’re not feeling well but we wanted you to know we think you are beautiful.’” The message added: “That would bring the biggest smile to her face. So, Team Campbell GO!”
