Cam Newton and his Auburn teammate Nick Fairley, a defensive tackle, were named to the Associated Press All-America team, according to a report by the news agency on Wednesday.

Newton, who won the Heisman Trophy for the best player in college football over the weekend, will play against another All-America teammate, University of Oregon running back LaMichael James, in the BCS National Championship on Jan. 10.

Newton won the trophy for passing for 2,000 yards and rushing for another 1,000 yards in a single season. He accounted for 49 touchdowns overall.

"We knew and understood he was talented, but we didn't realize he could do things on his own that a defense just can't account for," Auburn coach Gene Chizik said, according to NBC.

AP also said that Stanford center Chase Beeler and Oregon State defensive tackle Stephen Paea will be the other Pac-10 players on the All-America team.

Mason Foster of the Washington Huskies was also named on the AP list. Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore was named to the third-team All-America list. Caleb Schlauderaff of Utah was named as well.
