Calvin Klein Children’s Sleepwear Recalled Due to Flammability Hazard

A recall warning was issued April 23 for certain items from Calvin Klein brand children’s sleepwear as they present a flammability hazard.

Health Canada issued the warning as the sleepwear does not meet flammability requirements for children’s sleepwear under Canadian law, and consumers affected by the recall should call PVH Canada Corp.—Calvin Klein’s parent company—for return and refund details.

The products were only sold on the Canadian Calvin Klein website, www.calvinklein.ca, and according to the recall warning, approximately 13 of the products were sold in Canada between November 2018 and December 2018.

The recall affects the following sleepwear:

Health Canada said the above items are a hazard because loose-fitting sleepwear can come into contact with heat elements—such as stove elements, candles, and matches—and once ignited, “will burn rapidly, potentially resulting in severe burns to large areas of the child’s body.”

Health Canada said that, as of April 12, they have not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the sleepwear in Canada.

The recall was expanded from an initial two-item recall from April 1, where 7 of the products were sold from Calvin Klein’s Canadian website. The following products were recalled at that time:

According to Health Canada, children’s sleepwear sold in Canada must meet strict flammability requirements, which are not as strict for children’s day clothes. It said loose-fitting sleepwear made from polyester, nylon, or a blend of the two is more likely to comply with flammability requirements.
