LOS ANGELES—As additional fire-fighting resources from as far as New Zealand, Australia, Greece and Mexico, have arrived to assist the exhausted fire-fighters in California, officials on Monday said that fire-fighters are on their way to tame the California blazes, as the weather conditions improved throughout the bone-dried state.

So far nearly 1500 fires have been contained due to the endless efforts of fire-fighters, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Isolated thunderstorm activity occurred on Monday afternoon in the Sierra Nevada range producing numerous lightning downstrokes, worrying officials about more firestorms.

As of Monday, fire officials said that nearly 300 fires were still active, but that the three most dangerous blazes are almost fully contained, as the weather conditions in the region eased with higher humidity and lower temperatures.

More than 840,000 acres or 1, 312 square miles, have been charred making the crisis the largest in terms of size in California’s history.

At least hundred structures were consumed and one person perished in the recent blazes.

In terms of loss of life and property, however, the ongoing crisis seems smaller compared to the California’s firestorms last October, when eight people perished, 2,000 homes were burned, and the property damage mounted up to 2 billion dollars.

As the weather conditions turned back into the favor of California fire-fighters, the fire threatening the Butte County town of Paradise, 90 miles north of Sacramento, was no longer threatening homes and was 70 percent contained.

The forest inferno, which destroyed 50 residents’ buildings and outbuildings and scorched 53,000 acres, is expected to be fully contained by July 24.

Two other significant fires threatening populated areas, the Big Sur fire—120 miles South of San Francisco that blackened 120,000 acres in the tourist haven was 60 percent contained.
The Santa Barbara fire—103 miles North of Los Angeles was also under 90 percent under control.
