Calicoan Island was one of the many islands hit by Typhoon Haiyan, and communication is still down with the island days later.

Guiuan was destroyed by the powerful typhoon, seen through aerial photos. Even Guiuan had not received aid as of Monday.

Calicoan Island and other islands that are part of Guiuan such as Homonhon Island are cut-off from communication and there don’t appear to be any photos or video available from the islands.

Family members are wondering what condition is on the islands and if their loves ones are okay.

Rodney Waldeck and his wife Rosalina, for example, live on the island. Waldeck’s children Kym and Lindy are worried because they haven’t been able to get in touch with the couple, they told Yahoo! Australia

“It’s scary because where they are, they probably would have been the first land to get affected,” Kym said.

They did hear from one local that their dad is fine, but they’re waiting to hear from him firsthand.

And they’re also worried about the aftermath of the typhoon.

“There’s disease, there’s looting, and you know, its survival of the fittest,” Lindy said.
