Woman Killed in Head-On Crash in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, Calif.—A woman suffered fatal injuries when her car veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with another vehicle in Santa Ana, police said March 31.

Police received multiple calls regarding a traffic collision in the area of Fairview Street and Fifth Street at approximately 9:53 p.m. on March 30, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police said a Nissan Versa was traveling west on Fifth Street over the riverbed when it crossed into opposite lanes of traffic and struck a Chevrolet Tahoe head-on.

The Orange County Fire Authority took the female Nissan driver to UCI Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Chevrolet was being driven by a woman with her toddler inside, and they were not injured. The surviving parties remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

The department’s Collision Investigations Unit is investigating the accident, and anyone with information about the crash was asked to contact Detective Sgt. Richard Shin at 714-245-8294, or the department’s Traffic Division at 714-245-8200.
