LOS ANGELES—A 28-year-old man suspected of stealing a watch near West Hollywood was arrested more than 70 miles away in Moreno Valley, police said Feb. 1.
The robbery occurred in a hair salon near the 8200 block of Melrose Avenue, near Crescent Heights Boulevard, just east of the West Hollywood city limits, on Jan. 30 around 4:50 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Two suspects followed a man into the salon, where they demanded his watch moments before they pistol-whipped him after he resisted. Police said the suspects then violently took the victim’s watch from his wrist and fled the scene in a white 2014 Toyota Corolla.
The victim left the scene in a black SUV before the arrival of an officer.
Detectives located Demetri Sherman on Wednesday around 9:45 p.m. near the 22800 block of Calle San Juan De Los Lagos in Moreno Valley when he was driving the vehicle police said was used during the robbery, police said. He was arrested and booked on suspicion of robbery.
LAPD Wilshire Division robbery detectives sought the public’s help Thursday in providing information leading to the arrest of the second suspect. Police were also seeking the victim to further assist their investigation.
The second suspect was described as a 5-foot-7-inch tall man weighing approximately 120 pounds, last seen wearing dark-colored clothing.
