Man Charged With Series of Attacks, Including 2 Police, in Fullerton

SANTA ANA, Calif.—A 31-year-old man was charged Jan. 30 with attacking the mother of his child, child abuse, harming a senior woman, and assaulting two officers with a car while driving drunk in Fullerton.
Cody Joseph Gonzales was charged with a count of corporal injury on the mother of his child, two counts of criminal threats, two counts of child abuse and endangerment, a count of inflicting injury on an elder adult, two counts of assault with a car on two police officers, all felonies.
He was also charged with two counts of child abuse and endangerment, a count of unlawful entry of noncommercial dwelling, a count of driving under the influence of alcohol, and a count of driving with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit of 0.08 percent, all misdemeanors. He also faces a sentencing enhancement for targeting an elderly adult less than 70 years old.
Mr. Gonzales is accused of committing the crimes Saturday. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana.
According to the criminal complaint, he is accused of child abuse against two boys and two girls.
Mr. Gonzales’s blood-alcohol level was allegedly 0.13, according to the criminal complaint.
Mr. Gonzales is next due in court Feb. 7 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
A Fullerton police spokesman said he could not provide any details because of a policy regarding cases involving defendants charged by prosecutors. A message left with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office was not immediately returned.
