A driver was killed and his passenger was injured May 4 when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a light pole and a church in South Los Angeles.

The motorist, who was said to be about 40 to 45 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division reported.

The vehicle was going westbound on Manchester Avenue at about 12:20 a.m. and passed through the intersection at Central Avenue when the driver lost control, police said. According to a witness, the driver ran a red light before crashing into the church, ABC7 reported.

The motorist was ejected from the vehicle. His passenger, a woman of undetermined age, was rushed to a hospital, where her condition was not immediately provided.
