Several trucks belonging to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife were set ablaze and vandalized Feb. 12 in Eureka—along the California coast about 300 miles northwest of Sacramento—with the smoldering remains of some left behind, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in a Feb. 14 press release.

According to local news website Redheaded Blackbelt, eyewitnesses discovered some of the vehicles had been burned while others were “subject to deliberate acts of vandalism.”

The incident occurred early between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. according to the CHP, which confirmed officers were investigating suspected arson.

Neither a spokesperson for the city, nor its mayor, returned a request for comment on deadline.

Officials for the department also did not return a request for comment from The Epoch Times.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact CHP Officer Aaron Telloian at the Humboldt Area office at (707) 822-5981 or the non-emergency public dispatch line at (707) 268-2000.
