County officials seized 720,000 fentanyl pills and arrested a man Feb. 9 on suspicion of transporting a controlled substance for sale, according to a press release by California Attorney General Rob Bonta.

Authorities seized 110 packages weighing about 160 pounds from the suspect’s car. The boxes held blue pills marked “M30,” a name for Oxycodone.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was arrested in Alpine, Calif., about 30 miles northeast of San Diego, after authorities found that the vehicle he was driving carried a large amount of fentanyl. The investigation was part of a joint operation by federal and local law enforcement.

“This massive bust is the largest fentanyl seizure since the DOJ announced a partnership between our Fentanyl Enforcement Program and FAST Task Force,” said Mr. Bonta in the press release.

The FAST Task Force, established in 2022, consists of agencies that target criminal organizations that distribute fentanyl within San Diego County.

“I am grateful for the work of our special agents and law enforcement partners in getting these illicit and dangerous drugs off our streets,” Mr. Bonta said. . “There are countless lives being saved because of this important and difficult work.”
