The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits dipped last week, signaling the U.S. labor market’s strength amid economic uncertainty and high interest rates.

According to the Department of Labor, initial jobless claims fell by 2,000, to 227,000 for the week ended May 17, the lowest reading in four weeks. This came in below the consensus estimate of 230,000.
