Tesla is cautioning owners of vehicles equipped with Powerwall 2 AC Battery Power Systems to bring their cars to a local dealer for replacement of the system.

A Nov. 13 recall notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shows that the lithium-ion battery cells in certain Powerwall 2 models can cause the unit to malfunction, resulting in overheating. In some cases, smoke or fire could cause serious injury or even death. Tesla estimates about 10,500 vehicles could be affected.
