Tariff revenues reached a record high in April and helped boost the federal budget surplus for the month, new Treasury Department data show.

According to the department’s Monthly Treasury Statement, the U.S. government registered a $258 billion budget surplus last month, a 23 percent increase from the same month a year ago.
