Mars Inc., known worldwide for its confectionery products such as Snickers, M&M’s, and Twix, among others, has received approval from the European Commission (EC) to acquire Kellanova, known for its Kellogg’s brand cereals and snacks such as Pringles potato chips. The approval clears the final regulatory hurdle for the $36 billion deal, which is expected to close within days.

Under European Union Merger regulations, the EC conducted an in-depth investigation into whether the addition of Kellanova’s brands would significantly increase Mars’s bargaining power through retailers.
