Apple CEO Tim Cook to Step Down, John Ternus Named New Chief

Tim Cook will serve as CEO through the summer and work closely with new CEO John Ternus to ensure a smooth transition.

Apple announced a shakeup to its top leadership Monday, with Tim Cook to become executive chairman of the company’s board of directors and John Ternus the next CEO.

In a news release, Apple said the decisions were unanimously approved of by the board, and follows a “thoughtful, long-term succession planning process.” The pair will begin their new roles on Sept. 1.
