Bus Company in Leicester Condemns Bus ‘Surfers’ After Footage of Surfing Surfaces
Bus operator Leicester First has slammed the actions of two men who were taped “surfing” on the back of a bus, calling what they did “mindless” and “dangerous.”
The surfers were caught on camera by Facebook user Dan Hamilton, who was in his car next to the bus. The footage shows two men clinging to the back of a bus as it swings through a roundabout on a busy road.
The video was posted with the comment: “MATE!!! What have I just witnessed? Bus surfers.”

The video has racked up over 131,000 views on Facebook since it surfaced on Tuesday, Oct. 24, and has been shared over 2,000 times with over 800 comments on it.
Bus company First Leicester slammed the “surfers” after the footage emerged.
“This is a mindless act that is obviously dangerous to the people clinging to the rear of the bus and also other road users,” Sarah East, head of operations for First Leicester, told the Leicester Mercury.
“It is impossible for our driver to observe this activity taking place being at the rear of the bus and due to the seriousness of the matter, we will be sharing the evidence we have from our CCTV footage and the social media video with the police.”
The number 54 bus goes between the Beaumont Centre and Goodwood in Leicester.
Hamilton, who filmed the video, told the Mirror, “Of course it was really dangerous, but at the time I found it funny.
“Other drivers around me were laughing at what they were doing. I have no idea who the lads were or where they came from. They just appeared behind the bus.
“All in all, they must have stayed on for two-thirds of a mile. They got off at every stop for a rest but didn’t get caught at any point.”
This isn’t the first time people have been caught on camera clinging to the back of a bus. In September, commuter Ciaran Farrelly captured footage of a young man rollerblading while holding on to the back of a Dublin Bus, according to the Independent.ie. A spokesperson from the Road Safety Authority called it “idiotic behaviour.”
In 2012, footage of teenagers “surfing” a bus in Perth, Scotland, emerged in which one of the riders can be seen tumbling off the back of the bus, narrowly escaping injury.
According to Daily Mail, the footage was filmed for the Facebook page Perth Memes.
