Burma’s jailed opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has strongly recommended to her party that they do not register for the upcoming elections—the first in 20 years—due to new, unfair election laws.

The new regulations passed by the military junta state that no party with members in detention can register for the upcoming vote, expected to be in October.

Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) Party cannot run with Suu Kyi as a member.

According to her lawyer, Nyan Win, the long-detained Nobel Peace Prize winner Suu Kyi, said she “would not even think of registering under these unjust [election] laws,” reported The Irrawaddy. However, Suu Kyi has also said that ultimately, she leaves the decision to her party, which is reportedly deeply divided over what to do.

They are expected to make a decision on March 29.
