William H.T. “Bucky” Bush, the brother of former President George H.W. Bush and uncle of former President George W. Bush, has died at the age of 79, according to reports.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush confirmed that his uncle died but didn’t describe the cause of death, The Associated Press reported.
William Bush, the youngest son of Sen. Prescott S. Bush of Connecticut, was also active in politics. He was the chair of President George W. Bush’s re-election campaign in Missouri. At the time, he said that he used to babysit George when he was a child.
He was a longtime businessman in the St. Louis area’s financial industry, noted St. Louis Public Radio. He was the co-founder and chair of Bush O’Donnell Investment Advisors, based in Clayton, Missouri.
Other details about his death were not revealed.
None of the prominent Bush family members have made a comment about his passing.
U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt stated, “Bucky Bush was a good friend and I will miss him. While his leadership and dedication to the #STL community will be greatly missed, his innumerable contributions to the city and our state will leave an enduring legacy.”
