NEW YORK—The Future Physicians of Color hosted a Bronx Walk-a-Thon at noon on Sunday to raise money for diabetes. The organizers were medical students of color from the Albert Einstein Chapter of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), the largest student-run minority medical student organization that addresses community problems, according to the website.
The walk took place at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s outdoor track from noon until 2:00 p.m. and other organizations were present to give out information regarding nutrition, obesity, diabetes, and other common health issues.
The money raised is going to the American Diabetes Association and La Finca del Sur, a community farm in the South Bronx. The targeted Bronx community has a disproportionately high rate of chronic health conditions, according to SNMA.
