The BBC director-general announced that the British media corporation will close two of its digital radio stations, 6 Music and Asian Network, by the end of 2011 as part of the company’s reorganization.

Half the company’s Web sites will be closed by 2013, along with BBC Switch and Blast, radio, TV as well as online shows for teenagers.

The company, which was founded in 1922 in Britain, expects to save $893 million, which will be used for international news productions and other programs.

The media company is also expected to reduce online spending by 25 percent. The shake-up will likely trigger around 600 layoffs.
