Chris Mahone, 27, thought his fiancé was just great when she offered to organize his bachelor party on Ibiza. He and about 30 of his pals coughed up $580 each for the trip, but when they showed up on Thursday, Sept. 7, for their flight, a hard to imagine moment of anger and disappointment awaited them.
The airport attendant told them their boarding passes, handed to them by the bride-to-be, Rachel Doran, were not in the system. They called up their place of accommodation on Ibiza, but the hotel had no record of their booking. They called Doran, who said the documents she provided should have been in order. She even offered to pay for the flight tickets on the spot.
Then, however, she stopped responding.
As it appears, Doran scammed her fiancé and his friends.
“She printed fake boarding passes and used a local travel firm’s logo to put on the top of letters and tickets,” a source told The Sun. “It happened because she heard he'd cheated on her, when he hadn’t. She must have been planning her revenge for months, maybe a year. She’s disgusting.”
The news hit Mahone hard.
“Well words cannot describe the pain and feels that are playing with my head today,” he wrote on Facebook on Sept. 8. “I totally want to apologize to all my fantastic mates that were gonna celebrate what was supposed to be my stag do, I can’t apologize enough, l’m sorry boys I really am.”
The couple was supposed to get married in their hometown, Cleator Moor, some 80 miles north of Liverpool. That seems off the table now.
Doran fled the couple’s home near Whitehaven and is hiding in a caravan park, a friend told The Sun.
Doran’s grandmother, Monica McKee, 81, said she didn’t want to have anything to do with her granddaughter anymore.
“Her parents are just devastated, embarrassed, and disgusted—they won’t even come out the house,” she said.
“The lad she was going with, he was a lovely lad. I wouldn’t have her back in my door, I wouldn’t have her back down my garden path.”
Doran’s brother Ryan said her family disowned her.
“How a person can do something like that is beyond me,” he said. “Evil cow. No morals.”
Mahone ended up going to Ibiza anyway—with eight of his friends.
On Sept. 13 he posted on Facebook a picture of himself with an unfinished beer and a slightly glazed expression. People were cheering him on in the comments.
“Onwards and upwards pal,” one commented.
