Brian Urlacher retires: Brian Urlacher, a linebacker who spent his entire career playing for the Chicago Bears, tweeted that he is retiring on Wednesday.

“After spending a lot of time this spring thinking about my NFL future, I have made a decision to retire,” he said in a statement posted on Twitter.

He added: “Although I could continue playing, I’m not sure I would bring a level of performance or passion that’s up to my standards. When considering this, along with the fact that that I could retire after a 13 year career wearing only one jersey for such a storied question, my decision became pretty clear.”

Urlacher had been dealing with persistent injuries over the past several seasons and when the Bears released him, he had difficulty finding a new team.

In describing playing for the Chicago Bears for his whole career, Urlacher, 34, tweeted “it was an honor.”

Urlacher began playing for the Bears in 2000, spending 12 years with the team, getting to the Pro Bowl eight times.
