The Vikings quarterback suffered a devastating hit after he was sacked by Bears defensive end Corey Wootton in Minnesota’s 40-14 Monday night shellacking by Chicago.

Favre suffered a concussion and was knocked out of the game, a hit sure to swirl rumors that Favre may be done.

After the game, the sure-fire Hall of Famer didn’t say definitely whether he would ever return to the field.

“I don’t know with this concussion, based on my decision-making, I probably shouldn’t tell you one way or the other right now,” he said, according to a video of the press conference posted on NFL.com, poking fun at his waffling the past few years over whether he would retire or not.

Concussions are considered serious head injuries, and often take several weeks to heal. Favre will most likely be held out the rest of the season, at the very least.

Last week, Favre snapped his iron-man 297-game consecutive starts streak, succumbing to a shoulder injury that lingered into this week.

According to USA Today, Favre told Vikings coach Leslie Frazier that he wanted to play in spite of his shoulder sprain, and the Vikings accommodated his request, changing his designation to questionable the day of the game and giving him a start.

Favre credited his competitive spirit and his desire to play in front of home fans for his choosing to play in spite of pain.

“I knew it was the last home game,” he said after the game, according the NFL.com press conference video. “This also may seem kind of crazy, but I was looking forward to playing in a blizzard ... Do I regret playing? Absolutely not. I wanted to play.”

The game between NFC North rivals was moved to the University of Minnesota’s open-air TCF Bank Stadium. The roof of the Vikings’ home stadium, the Metrodome, collapsed from heavy snow two weeks earlier.

However, Favre said that the frosty conditions didn’t really factor into his injury or affect his play.

“I thought the field conditions, in spite of some of the reports ... were good,” he said in the NFL.com video of the post-game press conference. “I’ve played in colder. It was icy. The conditions were okay.”
