[xtypo_dropcap]B[/xtypo_dropcap]OSTON—--Good fortune is flowing for Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts. It has received $33.6 million in monetary gifts and works of art since July of 2010. This is more than half the amount it received for the entire fiscal year of 2010, which totaled $57 million.

Bank of America, owner of one of the world’s oldest and largest art collections, gave $10 million of the total, including $5 million in funds and $5 million in art.

In return for the bank’s gifts and what the MFA calls “long-term” support for the arts, the Museum has decided to name its Huntington Avenue plaza entrance “Bank of America Plaza on the Avenue of the Arts.”

The Bank of America gift includes a five-panel, approximately 10 by 22 feet painting called Blue Green Yellow Orange Red (1968) by American contemporary artist Ellsworth Kelly. The MFA says it is one of the most significant works of art that the museum has recently acquired.

The painting will be a prized addition to the Museum’s Linde Family Wing for Contemporary Art, which will open in September 2011, featuring works created since the mid 20th century.

The Museum is also adding a new “Arts of the Americas” wing.  There will be a free day for the public to view the wing on Saturday, November 20.

The new additions are part of the Museum’s renovation project, which includes the redesign of its entrance and several new wings.
