Two people are dead and four others are injured, including a policeman, following a shooting at a mall in Boise, Idaho, on Monday, said officials.

A suspect is in custody as the Boise Police Department confirmed it is “responding to a report of shots fired” at the Boise Towne Square shopping mall, the largest mall in the state.

“People are asked to avoid the area. More information will be available here as it is confirmed,” said the department on Twitter.

Later, Boise Police confirmed five people and the officer were hurt during the incident. The extent of their injuries was not detailed by the department.

“Police are making notifications to family of those involved and continuing to clear the mall,” said the department.

Boise Police Chief Ryan Lee told a press conference on Monday afternoon that two people died in the incident. One person was reportedly killed when police were notified about shots fired at the mall. Lee added that officers upon arriving at the scene found someone matching the suspect and a shootout with the person ensued, which injured one of the officers.

The suspect’s identity has yet to be announced.

Photos taken at the scene show people being transported into ambulances as other people are seen crying and speaking on their cellular phones.
Witnesses told Fox28 in Spokane, Washington, that about a dozen shots were fired in the incident. Another witness was quoted as saying that the man fired at an escalator.

Earlier this month, four people were shot at the Park City Center mall in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, officials said.
