Coast Guard personnel discovered a decomposing body inside a display boat on the lawn of the guard’s station in Massachusetts, the Cape Cod Chronicle reported.

The body was found in a closed compartment at about 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, at Coast Guard Station Chatham.

A boarding team that was conducting a law enforcement training found the body during their exercise, according to Coast Guard Petty Officer Andrew Barressi, the Cape Cod Times reported.

“Preliminary investigation has not revealed any evidence that foul play was involved,” a statement from the District Attorney’s office reads.

The medical examiner’s office is working to identify the body so that the relatives can be notified.

The display boat was the first motor boat purchased by the Coast Guard. The 44-foot boat was commissioned in Chatham in 1963 and was put out of service eight years ago.

Massachusetts State Police detectives, Chatham Police, and Coast Guard Investigative Services are actively investigating the grim discovery.
