In his latest weekly radio address, Mayor Michael Bloomberg discussed new steps the city plans to take to help immigrant businesses. The mayor pointed out that small businesses in New York provide half the jobs in the private sector and helped New York battle through the recession better than other cities. Immigrants are more likely to start small businesses than native-born Americans. While newly opened small businesses by immigrants are less likely to survive, the mayor plans to launch contracting opportunities between small businesses and large firms and free startup business courses in languages other than English.
