Hebe Haven Yacht Club Spring Saturday Series 2013 started with a smallish, but respectable, size fleet on Saturday Feb 16. Considering that many people are still away on CNY holiday and other events were held on the same day, 14 boats was reasonable.
The series will be run on six days, with up to 12 races, and finishes on Saturday May 11.
For the first day’s races the weather started off rather cold and overcast, but with a satisfying 15 knot breeze. However, as the afternoon progressed, although the breeze dropped to about 10 knots, the clouds broke and out came the sun against the forecast of rain showers.

IRC
Peninsula Signal 8 dominated the first IRC Division race winning line honours and started off in the same vein for the second race, but at the leeward mark on the first circuit she withdrew from the race because of a damaged sail.
But on corrected time it was Mojito, skippered by Simon Blore, that won both of the IRC races on corrected time giving her a good lead after the first two races. However, in this 12-race series up to four discards may be possible dependent upon the final number of races run, so it is still a long way to the finishing post.
HKPN
Bits and Pieces was also in top form in the HKPN Division taking line honours in both of the races and even beating all of the IRC Division boats from the same start time and over the same two circuit course. But on corrected time Bits was pushed into second place in each race, first by Tara and then by Dea. These three boats finished the day equal on four points.
Next Race Day
Race Day 2 is scheduled for Saturday Mar 2.
