NEW YORK—American James Blake advanced to the second round of the US Open with a 7–5, 6–2, 3–6, 6–3 win over Slovakia’s Lukas Lacko on a rainy Monday afternoon.

The 32-year old Blake, who is playing in his 12th US Open served up 11 aces and won 74 percent of his first serve points while hitting 58 percent of those serves in.

Blake, who hit 39 winners, as opposed to Lacko’s 22, moved to 11–1 in first round matches at the US Open with his only loss coming in his first appearance in 1999. His best finish was reaching the quarterfinals in both 2005 and 2006.

For the 24-year old Lacko, the loss was his third in three career matches at the US Open.
