Bionic hands: A woman in Columbus, Ohio lost both her hands and legs to flesh-eating bacteria during a zip line accident last summer.
But now Aimee Copeland, the woman, has a new set of bionic hands, and can do all kinds of regular activities with them.
The 24-year-old is the first woman in the world with bilateral upper limb amputations to get “the all new iLimb ultra revolution prosthetic hands,” according to WXIA-TV.
Copeland said one of the first things she wants to do with the new hands is cook. “I really want to be able to make a nice yummy veggie pie or something for myself when I get home, maybe knit a hat,” she said.
The bionic hands cost $100,000 each, and can be controlled through an iPod app using blue tooth technology, according to Robert Kistenberg of Georgia Tech, who is working with Aimee and the hands.
