Former President Bill Clinton was hospitalized in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where he underwent a procedure to enhance the blood flow in a coronary artery.

Mr. Clinton had a coronary bypass in 2004. He is 63 years old. He serves as a United Nations special envoy to Haiti, and has been working to help the nation since its devastating earthquake.

“President Clinton is in good spirits, and will continue to focus on the work of his foundation and Haiti’s relief and long-term recovery efforts,” said his Counselor Douglas Band in a statement.

The William J. Clinton Foundation works on global climate change, HIV/AIDS in the developing world, childhood obesity, and economic opportunity, according to its Web site.

President Clinton’s wife is Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She traveled to New York from her job in Washington on Thursday.
