Big L, a rapper who was shot and killed 15 years ago to the date, was remembered on Twitter.

L--born Lamont Coleman in Harlem--was killed Feb. 15, 1999, on 45 West 139th Street in Harlem by an unknown assailant. He was shot nine times in the face and chest.

Gerard Woodley was arrested for the crime but was later released.

“It’s a good possibility it was retaliation for something [Big L’s] brother did, or [Woodley] believed he had done,” a spokesperson with the NYPD was quoted as saying by Rolling Stone magazine at the time.

On Twitter Saturday, users remembered Big L and his rapid-fire, multi-syllabic rhyme schemes.

“Big L Rest In Peace,” one user wrote.

Another added, “RT! Today is the day rap legend Big L passed away! R.I.P Rap Legend ”Big L.”
