Ben Roethlisberger’s crooked, broken nose.Ben Roethlisberger, quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, suffered a broken nose Sunday night against the Baltimore Ravens during a hard-hitting, defensive battle in which the Steelers won 13-10.
Roethlisberger was hit in the face during the Steelers’ first drive as he was being sacked by Baltimore defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he will need surgery to fix it.
After taking his helmet off, one could easily tell that his nose broken after sustaining the hit to the face.
“I just knew it was bleeding, and then when I got to the sideline I could tell just by the look on everyone’s face that something wasn’t right,” said Roethlisberger, according to the Washington Post. “I looked real quick. I don’t know, I look like I just went 12 rounds with [boxer Manny] Pacquiao.”
Even though Ngata’s hit to the face was questionable, he did not get penalized.
With the victory over the Ravens, the Steelers (9-3) took first place in the AFC North while the Ravens (8-4) were pushed back to second place.
The decisive play during the game came late in the fourth quarter when Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu lined up near the line of scrimmage and hit Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco as he was reeling back to throw. The ball came loose and Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley picked it up and ran it back to near the goal line setting up the only Pittsburgh touchdown.
“Everybody watching TV at home, everybody in the stadium, you all know it you see 43 [Polamalu] at the line, four-minute offense, he’s coming,” Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs said, according to the Associated Press. “It was just like, I hope we have a plan. It just didn’t feel good when I saw that hair at the line.”
